About the breed
Catalana, also known as Catalana del Prat, is a domestic chicken breed originating from the Spanish region of Catalonia. The breed developed in the second half of the 19th century. Catalana was introduced to the wider public at an exhibition in Madrid in 1902. It is a dual-purpose breed traditionally raised for both eggs and meat. The breed is known for its active nature, ability to forage for food, and good adaptation to hot climates. The classic Catalana is distinguished by golden-beige plumage, a red comb, and bluish legs. In 1949, the breed was officially recognized by the American Poultry Association.
